    UPDATE:

    Tried out the bed things. You attach a velcro type sheet to the bed and these rigid (fabric covered) l shaped support brackets stick to the bed to prop you up. After day two I had bad back ache and hubs had to fiddle around as much as with the pillow set up we had before.

    So now I’ve done a 4 page report as to why I need the proper bed and going to get my MDC officer to back me up and put it on headed paper – then back to the PCT…

    Typical – if you want a bed you can’t get one – and when you don’t need one particularly you get told to have one!! Bonkers.

    I have bed news… It’s been 11 months since I applied for a bed (filled out the form to go to NHS).

    I found out that my area has two ‘parts’ of NHS Supply and my form is going to be processed by a community neuro rehab team. Anyway, I hadn’t heard anything since March where we tried and failed at sleeping on a thing with velcro supports. So:

    I wrote out a huge document with about 50 points on why I needed to try out a profiling bed. I also called Centrobed to include costings etc in the same document (who make the bed I want to try and get). I pointed out health reasons and health and safety reasons for my PAs etc. I also printed of everything the MDC produced on profiling beds and sent it all by hand to the District Nurse.

    I had a phone call a week later to say that the District Nurse plus Rehab person plus centrobed would like to meet with me to do an assessment for a trial! WHOOP. The meeting isn’t until 3rd week of August – which will be exactly a year to the day I first tried to get a trial of the bed. So I’m a few steps further now… :P

    Excellente! Doing a little victory wiggle for you now – will save doing a full victory dance for when they say they are delivering your new bed. Glad they are seeing sense at last…

    I had this problem too! Because I didn’t spend all day in bed and wasn’t terminally ill they wouldn’t fund a bed. I got round this in two ways.

    Update: No bed news :-/

    Its currently gone through my MP and lodged as a complaint via the MD advocacy team. It’s nearly 2 years since I applied (although the NHS dispute this and other facts).

    They said they acknowledge the need for that bed and, with no time scale, will continue into trying to get one. That was a month ago and not a word from them. I was told 2 years ago they agreed I needed one, just appalling service :-(

    :bang: how blooming frustrating! It is ridiculous that this is still going on but sadly I am not all that surprised – my wheelchair was 2 and a half years and the bed turned down quite a few times before funding agreed. Getting equipment can seem such a struggle :(

    ahh yes wheelchairs – thank God my husband has nearly finished building my latest one (and I am using it in and out the house). NHS one is still an ongoing saga – that one is currently a 1 year wait… The thing that bugs me is the no contact. No courtesy of giving deadlines for their actions or keeping you informed – you are just left cold and frustrated. I like the banging head on brick wall emoticon… quite apt lol.

    Bed update:

    Sent quite a few e-mails to Centrobed to ask if my NHS had contacted them for a quote. No response to any of them.

    Yesterday they phoned up and wanted to come out that afternoon – so they did. They wouldn’t give a straight answer but just said they needed some measurements for an updated quote. They seemed to think they would just then go ahead and start making the bed – but couldn’t confirm they actually had an order to make it!!.

    SO…. I’m not sure whether this is true but it seems that in 2-3 (maybe 4) weeks they will deliver a bed. :scratch:

    No word from the NHS and nothing in writing about exactly what is happening which is still appalling. I am worried they will just turn up on the doorstep with a van and a bed!!! I will tell them to put it in the garden… there is no way Im letting them go back with a bed that’s almost in my house!

    Trying not to get too excited… but I am :lol:

    I am going to do a tentative :yes: and victory wiggle. We will be drinking bubbly in the hub pub when your bed arrives that’s for sure :)

    I looked into bed but didn’t push it as I need wider bed than a single. I need a small double(queen size) due to the S spine I lay diagonally across bed. My feet used to dangle over the edge on my old single and I fell out lots when I was turning.

    I have attached belts on the mattress handles either side of my bed to aid turning. I got a memory foam bed at the minute and hate it. love the adjustable part for breathing but the foam gets too soft with body heat and I cant rock myself into a new position as mattress compresses.

    Has anyone had any experience with a electric under mattress pillow lifter on an ordinary bed??

    I have on that fills with air to raise the pillow which I have used when my electric bed had a fault. It worked pretty well but when I pressed the control to inflate it, it was very noisy! I bought it second-hand so maybe newer versions have been improved.

    Update: bed people called on Monday to set up delivery and as some of you know my Arctic Centrobed was delivered yesterday. After all this time – finally.

    They were supposed to come 9-11 but on arrival at 11.30 could be heard asking each other what time were they supposed to come and wondering if they were early!

    Anyway, took about 39 mins to set it up and the training consisted of ‘press the foot up button to move feet up’. Lol duh.

    So, night one went as follows. Got into bed, ouch mattress too hard. Got out again. Gone midnight we were swapping mattresses ! Waited until the morning to try out the buttons so not really experimented with positions because my vent went nuts (see other post) and I had a crap night. But the main thing is this two yr saga is over (until it breaks lol). Soon I should look like a pretzel and have better nights! :-) yay.

    LOL – finding a comfy sleeping position is as bad as shoe shopping :D

    Im still bed hunting. seen a lovely bed on age uk that I liked. lovely old fashioned metal type but with the adjustable bed working on it to raise head and feet. could get a price online or over the phone so let the rep come up. :o :o :o nearly feel off the edge of the demo bed. £3335 and he said that would be cheaper than the manufacture “willowbrook” who have the same bed on their webpages. age uk apparently get a discount to help people out :shock:

    So will have to let go of the fancy metal bed idea. going to try a company called Laybrook who have nice adjustable beds with the hi/low mechanism to aid both my sit to stand and to help my carer with night turn.

    as a matter of interest they also have a turning bed

    Laybrook still look too expensive but at least they have posted the prices. I don’t like this secret price carry on some shops have, as if they judge you on sight on how much they think you will spend.
